HOTEL DE AMBASSADE AMSTERDAM |

Like most major cities Amsterdam is made up of a collection of neighbourhoods, each one with its own personality and selling points. There’s the 9-Straatjes, a small area in the centre that boasts lots of narrow streets lined with quirky shops and cafes. The Centrum is in a similar area and is perhaps the busiest spot in the city. It has a plethora of museums, lively bars, and top-notch shops that are a big hit with tourists and locals. Then there’s De Pijp, which is similar to the 9-Straatjes in appearance but has a lot fewer tourists. This is where you’ll find lots of the markets and local, independent stores. Jordaan is one of the best-loved neighbourhoods in the city, and is home to a lot of young creatives, up-and-coming bars, and street art. NDSM-Werf is similar to Jordaan in that it is hugely creative and is called home by a number of artists, musicians, and students. Then there’s Oud-Zuid, the richer part of the city that caters to expensive tastes and luxury desires.
The medieval Old Centre with the always busy Dam Square and the tempting Red Light District is the most visited part of Amsterdam. Make sure to stop at Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, homes to the best nightlife venues.

Amsterdam is overflowing with accommodation choices for every type of trip. Whether you’re visiting for a romantic weekend, a business trip or a fun holiday with friends, you’ll be spoilt for choice with brilliant places to stay in Amsterdam.
We stayed near the old town. Within walking distance of the Anne Frank house and the hop on hop off boat. This was a great way to see the city. A 24 hour ticket. It takes you to all the important sights. On the streets be very careful of the bicycles. The Rijksmuseum was well worth a visit. And we went to the Red Light District which was interesting.
“My girlfriend and I arrived with chest infections – at reception, the young guy with short dark hair was extremely helpful and arranged our doctor’s appointment. He saved my holiday. All other staff were lovely too”
This is an amazing city. I was here about 10 years ago and it has really been cleaned up and more tourist frienldy. It wouldn’t really be somewhere i would bring kids. Very easy city to navigate around. Food can be hit or miss. Coffee shops vary hugely from commercial ones to more local ones. Loads of shopping but main shopping street has nearly all the same shops as every other European city. Night life is amazing. Red light district not as sleezy as you would think. Everyone needs to go on at least one canal cruise. Use places like tours and tickets to buy tickets for tours they are much cheaper. Amsterdam has something for everyone.
Cool and convenient, The Student Hotel Amsterdam West is a 3-star contemporary hotel in the upcoming area of Slotervaart. Decorated in a style that’s both functional and fun, modern furniture and eye-catching colour can be found throughout, with a spacious gym and a bright and inviting ‘Berlin-style’ restaurant. The Student Hotel Amsterdam’s rooms have free wifi, a flat-screen cable TV and private bathroom, as well as modern design furniture and use of a shared kitchen.
Two of the best places to try hand-made stroopwafels are a little café called Lanskroon, in the centre of the city, and from the vendor in Albert Cuypmarkt who makes them from fresh throughout the day.

The Rijksmuseum houses the largest collection of classical Dutch art, with nearly one million objects from around the country. Some of the most famous pieces on display are the works of Rembrandt, including his masterpiece, De Nachtwacht (The Night Watch).
Amsterdam is a wonderful open minded city. Most people are friendly and unlike Germany not only the people is more beautiful but their attitude as well. This is my second time to Amsterdam ans it will not be my last one.
For food on the go, chips with peanut sauce (another Indonesian fusion) are a very addictive Dutch snack and can be bought at most street stands. Raw herring may not sound appetising to everyone, but, served with onions, is another popular street food snack.

“Great location. From Schiphol airport 12 minute train ride to RAI station. Less than 5 minute walk from Amsterdam RAI through the tunnel/walking path to the hotel. RAI station is well connected and is 10 min ride from city centre. Very clean, modern and comfortable rooms. Super friendly and helpful desk staff that provided us a map and some good spots to visit (especially Elina, I hope I spelled your name right!) Overall great value; would certainly return!”

Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport is really close to the city centre and therefore really easy to get to via a selection of public transport. The easiest way is to hop on the train, which takes around 20 minutes. Alternatively, there are a selection of buses outside the terminals that travel direct to various parts of the city centre. Otherwise there is a busy taxi rank by the airport where you can pick up a quick, cheap cab to your destination.

Here, you can find a wide array of cheap goods and tasty snacks, including stroopwafels, doughnuts, and egg rolls. Tulips can be bought from Bloemenmarkt, by the Singel, and Delftware, the famous blue and white Dutch pottery, can be bought at many specialist shops in the city, such as Jorrit Heinen Royal Gifts and Collectables in the Munt Tower.
