“Just perfect. 4 metro stops from center and station (stop just close to hotel). Nice staff and bar, 2 clubs, restaurant. Breakfast complete and really tasty. Room tiny and comfortable with nice view of the city.”
Places to stay in Amsterdam are just as diverse as the city itself. From hostels set in old townhouses on the canal front and cosy B&B that burst with culture and new-age Dutch design to grand hotels tucked away down the winding streets, Amsterdam accommodation covers every kind of situation. As well as affordable luxury hotels and historic guesthouses that ooze old city charm, there are plenty of affordable apartments dotted around all the major attractions, giving visitors the perfect chance to explore the city like a local.
Hooftstraat.
Amsterdam is nice but reaearch a bit of time kn advanced to know where thw cheapest places to eat and drink are. Plan in advanced museums and sightseeing as they sell out. Invest in bus ticket at the bookstore in the airport. It is cheaper for a few day pass and that is worth it. Invest in skip the line offers for tourist attractions.

From the charming canal belt (grachtengordel) to the lively Red Light District, and from buzzy Rembrandtplein to the more peaceful suburbs of the Oud Zuid – Amsterdam has a district and a pace to suit every traveller.
The apt was fully equipped with beautiful artwork and a lovely fresh bouquet of flowers. Those nice touches made it feel like home. Host was welcoming and provided a great deal of info re transits, etc.
De Pijp, Amsterdam’s “Latin Quarter” is a trendy residential area with an abundance of cafés, bistros, shops and restaurants. This bustling neighbourhood lies between Museumplein and the River Amstel and plays daily host to the city’s oldest street market, the Albert Cuypmarkt. Picturesque Sarphatipark is a pretty oasis in de Oude Pijp – a haven of calm in the middle of this lively neighbourhood. View hotels.

Originally a working-class neighbourhood, an influx of artists has given Jordaan a bohemian feel, with its narrow streets, charming hofjes (inner courtyards) and independent boutiques and art galleries. On Monday mornings a flea market stretches from Noordermarkt to Westerstraat in the heart of the Jordaan district. View hotels.
Heel attent!”
TV/cable did not work. We called to have it fixed, was assured someone would come to look at it. No one did; kitchen equipment was inadequate, for example only 2 teaspoons; narrow bedrooms require crawling in and out of bed from the foot of the bed. One bathroom overhead light didn’t work. Kick plate under kitchen counter attached with tape and kept falling down.

Like most major cities Amsterdam is made up of a collection of neighbourhoods, each one with its own personality and selling points. There’s the 9-Straatjes, a small area in the centre that boasts lots of narrow streets lined with quirky shops and cafes. The Centrum is in a similar area and is perhaps the busiest spot in the city. It has a plethora of museums, lively bars, and top-notch shops that are a big hit with tourists and locals. Then there’s De Pijp, which is similar to the 9-Straatjes in appearance but has a lot fewer tourists. This is where you’ll find lots of the markets and local, independent stores. Jordaan is one of the best-loved neighbourhoods in the city, and is home to a lot of young creatives, up-and-coming bars, and street art. NDSM-Werf is similar to Jordaan in that it is hugely creative and is called home by a number of artists, musicians, and students. Then there’s Oud-Zuid, the richer part of the city that caters to expensive tastes and luxury desires.

Famous for its canals, cafes, picturesque buildings, museums, and liberal culture, Amsterdam has something for everyone. Rent a bicycle or take a boat trip to really get to know this hip city and its bustling streets and waterways. There are a range of hotels in Amsterdam to suit most budgets and requirements, ensuring you can relax and make the most of your stay here.
Quiet, but reasonably close to the city centre. The host cares about your experience, and gives alot of helpful information about the apartment, the community, as well as transit info. The apartment is very well equipped.

“The room was very clean and modern. Some people might think it’s a little bit far from the city centre but it’s quiet, safe and actually, it takes only 15 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal station by metro! Not far at all!! The staff were very friendly :-)) Next time I visit Amsterdam, I’ll book this hotel again! Thank you for a lovely stay :-)”
For food on the go, chips with peanut sauce (another Indonesian fusion) are a very addictive Dutch snack and can be bought at most street stands. Raw herring may not sound appetising to everyone, but, served with onions, is another popular street food snack.
Amsterdam’s 17th century canals run through the heart of the city and have been awarded World Heritage status. Lined by iconic, narrow buildings and home to many sleepy houseboats, a stroll along the maze of canals is a pleasant attraction in itself. When you need to relax, there’s always a café nearby. A combination of pub and cafe, ‘brown cafes’, as they are called, have an intimate, cosy atmosphere and serve a range of traditional drinks and snacks.
“From the moment you step in the door you feel the good and friendly ambience. From the fantastic welcome, to friendly talks during our stay and the goodbye with our goodie bag. The breakfast is yummy…”
Geweldige stad. Veel te doen voor alle leeftijden. Gezellige kroegen, lekker eten. Wel ontzettend druk. Café Hoppe (spui) is een topper evenals café old sailor (de wallen). Restaurant Haesje Claas lekker Hollands. Leuke rondleiding!
More adventurous visitors might be intrigued by the city’s famous red light district, in the old town area, with its window displays and sex shops. Despite initial reservations some may have, the area has a strong police presence and is populated by a range of people, from hen parties to tourists, seeking amusement and titillation more than anything else.

We didn’t get a chance to explore really as this was an unexpected stop over after a connecting flight to another country was missed. An early flight the following morning prevented any chance to look around.
