Dutch pancakes are a popular meal that every visitor should try, we recommend Pannenkoekenhuis Upstairs (so long as you don’t mind the steep staircase up to the restaurant) which serve generous sized helpings of this favourite, the bacon and syrup pancake being particularly delicious.
The Hoxton, Amsterdam is made up of a series of five canal houses overlooking both the Herengracht and Singel canals. The property has a fascinating history, dating from the early 17th Century, formally a residential town house that was home to the Mayor of Amsterdam. The hotel will consist of 111 rooms and will also house it’s very own Apartment, our meeting and event space like no other, restaurant and bar.
Pros: The location is great, opposite Centraal Railway station and you avoid the added cost and hassle of catching a cab to your hotel. Most tourist spots are within walking distance. Staff was great, they let us check in early and check out late which helped us a great deal.
Moving slightly further from the city centre, the southern area of Amsterdam is home to top tourist attractions such as the Museum Quarter, Vondelpark and the lively markets of De Pijp. Hotels in this neighbourhood are also great for people looking for a quiet break in Amsterdam rather than a party weekend.

This B&B boutique hotel is in the city’s 9 straatjes (9 streets) area, which is famous for its excellent shops. This hotel’s suites and apartments are very quirky, the perfect base for those interested in art and vintage style.
This modern 4-star hotel is found in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district, a short drive from the World Trade Centre. Nearby tram and metro stations mean you’re within easy reach of the city centre. Like most major cities Amsterdam is made up of a collection of neighbourhoods, each one with its own personality and selling points. There’s the 9-Straatjes, a small area in the centre that boasts lots of narrow streets lined with quirky shops and cafes. The Centrum is in a similar area and is perhaps the busiest spot in the city. It has a plethora of museums, lively bars, and top-notch shops that are a big hit with tourists and locals. Then there’s De Pijp, which is similar to the 9-Straatjes in appearance but has a lot fewer tourists. This is where you’ll find lots of the markets and local, independent stores. Jordaan is one of the best-loved neighbourhoods in the city, and is home to a lot of young creatives, up-and-coming bars, and street art. NDSM-Werf is similar to Jordaan in that it is hugely creative and is called home by a number of artists, musicians, and students. Then there’s Oud-Zuid, the richer part of the city that caters to expensive tastes and luxury desires.

Cons: Had booking confirmation in-hand. Manager asked a ton of questions, asked me to email her the confirmation, wasted a half hour till she finally told me the reservation cannot be honored because their reservation system was already closed, meaning they overbooked and refused my reservation after I already showed up at the hotel. They wasted my time. They were rude. They tried to blame me even though all i did was book online. They provided no assistance in getting a different room in the city. Awful experience. BE CAREFULL ON BUSY NIGHTS, THEY OVERBOOK.
Cons: The room was incredibly stuffy as there was no A/C. We couldn’t open the windows at night because the building construction next door started promptly at 7 am and the noise was unbearable with the windows open. Would never had booked here if I knew I would get about 2 hrs of sleep per night. The price was decent but now I know why!
Located in Zuidas, this romantic hotel is within 2 mi (3 km) of RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre, Van Gogh Museum, and Albert Cuyp Market. Rijksmuseum and Heineken Experience are also within 2 mi (3 km).
Quiet, but reasonably close to the city centre. The host cares about your experience, and gives alot of helpful information about the apartment, the community, as well as transit info. The apartment is very well equipped.
INK Hotel Amsterdam owes its name to the rich history of the building in which, as former home of the Dutch newspaper ‘De Tijd’, stories were conceived, written and brought to life in ink. INK Hotel is the place “where stories are yet to be written”. INK Hotel Amsterdam is a luxury design hotel, where the traditional rules of hospitality are freely translated to the modern day, rewriting the definition of ‘luxury’. Award winning, design located in the heart of Amsterdam.
Cons: I had high hopes for this property upon arrival, but overall was let down. I had the hotel dry clean three silk items, all of which were ruined. It took me over a week to get them to resolve it and in the end, they only paid out 75% of the replacement cost. We were put in a disabled accessible room located right by the elevator (despite not requesting an accessible room). It was loud, the accessible shower allowed water to get all over the bathroom floor. The vanity outlet in the bathroom wouldn’t work and it took them coming out two times to fix it, leaving me unable to do my hair both mornings we were there. Upon arrival, the woman who greeted us (and was apparently training) said that welcome drinks were complimentary for guests. When the man training her joined her to do our check-in in the lounge, he asked if we were in town for anything special. I mentioned it was for my husband’s birthday weekend and he offered to “cover our drinks.” This seemed odd given the woman had just told us they were complimentary. Not sure if he was being underhanded or if the woman training was just mistaken. The whole thing struck me as odd.
Amsterdam has a quirky range of public transport, including traditional tram services that work through the city, numerous buses, and an extensive and efficient train service that runs to outer parts of the city and nearby towns. Thanks to the canals, there are also a range of water-based transport options, but the best way to get around is by bike – a firm favourite amongst the locals.
The full-service spa Skins Institute has an infrared sauna, traditional Finnish sauna, Turkish steam bath, 4 treatment rooms for singles and couples, a relax room with a patio along the Amstel River, river-view swimming pool with a jet stream, and a 24-hour fitness studio equipped with the latest technology.
