Amsterdam has a quirky range of public transport, including traditional tram services that work through the city, numerous buses, and an extensive and efficient train service that runs to outer parts of the city and nearby towns. Thanks to the canals, there are also a range of water-based transport options, but the best way to get around is by bike – a firm favourite amongst the locals.
Pros: The INK hotel is in the perfect spot and it’s a gorgeous boutique. The room had very unique, modern decor with stylish writing on the walls. I worried that the look might come off cheesy, but it was very well done. Loves the staff, restaurant, and bar!
Geweldige stad. Veel te doen voor alle leeftijden. Gezellige kroegen, lekker eten. Wel ontzettend druk. Café Hoppe (spui) is een topper evenals café old sailor (de wallen). Restaurant Haesje Claas lekker Hollands. Met de dames naar de diamantair Gassan geweest. Leuke rondleiding!

Amsterdam is a cosy city, with a flurry of winding streets, tall, narrow houses, and cute bridges popping up over the array of canals. Strolling through the markets, past the design-led cafes, and the boutique shops is like stepping back in time to a world where cobbled streets ruled and friendly faces were around every corner. There’s a wealth of art and design throughout the city too, with a number of galleries, studios, and museums showcasing the creative atmosphere of Amsterdam. Fit in with the locals by hiring a bike and whizzing alongside trams, over humped bridges, and into the labyrinth of cool, quirky streets. And, afterwards, soak up the intimate ambiance with one of our apartments in Amsterdam, where you can stay in a budget flat or boutique holiday rental in the centre of all the action.
Pros: The front desk staff was excellent. The hotel was a pleasant surprise. I was thrilled to stay in a room that was large, clean and very comfortable. Loved the robe, slippers and balcony with view of Amsterdam Centraal! The location was perfect. Hotel is historic so parts of it are older but for the location and price I paid I would absolutely stay here again. Also I ordered a pizza from room service and was amazed. It may have been the best pizza I have ever had!
Situated on the Amstel River, the posh De L’Europe Amsterdam hotel offers lovely views of the riverside scenery from several rooms and suites, as well as a terrace restaurant. The luxurious rooms at the Waldorf Astoria offer breathtaking views of the Herengracht Canal or an elegant courtyard garden.
This five star bed and breakfast has contemporary rooms with exposed beam ceilings. It’s adults only, so you can enjoy a very grown up stay. Although it’s a B&B, breakfast isn’t served on-site: instead you get a voucher for the celebrated Vlaamsch Broodhuys bakers just along the road.
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Amsterdam and couldn’t have asked for a better hotel. Very comfortable, immaculate, great location, incredibly friendly and professional staff. Would definitely recommend this hotel for pleasure or business trip.
The Rijksmuseum houses the largest collection of classical Dutch art, with nearly one million objects from around the country. Some of the most famous pieces on display are the works of Rembrandt, including his masterpiece, De Nachtwacht (The Night Watch).
The Hoxton, Amsterdam is made up of a series of five canal houses overlooking both the Herengracht and Singel canals. The property has a fascinating history, dating from the early 17th Century, formally a residential town house that was home to the Mayor of Amsterdam. The hotel will consist of 111 rooms and will also house it’s very own Apartment, our meeting and event space like no other, restaurant and bar.
Cons: The front desk and housekeeping seemed understaffed. There always seemed to be a very long line to check in/out & ask questions. Rooms were not ready when promised although it ended up working in our favor as we received an upgrade & free drinks at the bar.
This award-winning B&B sits above the celebrated Italian restaurant of the same name. There are two room types, standard and studio. The studio has its own kitchen so you can prepare your own meals and snacks.
Pros: The hotel staff were very friendly and responsive. We were upgraded to a nice room. The breakfast was fantastic, probably the best we had had in a long time. The location is perfect for any visitor and Amsterdam is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Also to note, people in Amsterdam (including all the hotel staff) were extremely friendly and ready to help. Loved it!
Amsterdam is a wonderful open minded city. Most people are friendly and unlike Germany not only the people is more beautiful but their attitude as well. This is my second time to Amsterdam ans it will not be my last one.

Cons: No cotton washcloths No alcohol on the premises Small refrigerator No ice? Limited dining in the area Must take a taxi to/from airport or port, the train is too far to walk with luggage The price the hotel quoted us for the taxi was incorrect. The taxi companies charged more.
Pros: Three adults, including myself, stayed here a day before and after a cruise. The hotel was a great price and offered three single beds and a very large bathroom. Being from the U.S. with limited public transportation where I live, I did not realize that the tram is different than the train. We thought we could take the tram to and from the airport and port, but you need to take a taxi, so that was a little disappointing. The tram is an excellent way to get downtown, though. You pay right on the tram, 7.50 Euros for 24 hours. The staff was extremely helpful in giving directions regarding navigating the city and helping answer a variety of questions. They even ordered taxi pick up for us.
Hostels are cheap Amsterdam accommodation option where a number of people share one room or a dorm. Cheap hostels are a good alternative for those on a budget, but offer less privacy. They are mostly visited by students and backpackers, thus are popular places to meet fellow travellers. Most of the youth hostels are situated in the city centre and the prices vary from 17 to 30 euros per person. There are also smoking allowed hostels equipped with smoking room.
Cons: Our room was on the first floor, so keeping the windows open at night for a breeze did not work out as the street noise was too loud. Our last night we noticed a small visitor in our room, a mouse, who was persistent and did not want to leave. It was our last night so we just said our goodnight to our guest and slept, it’s an old building so I don’t think it is an “infestation” but rather something that comes with staying in an old, large building.

Pros: The location was very convenient and accessible and the staff was very accommodating. Our room was not ready when we arrived nor was it ready when they told us to return. The management responded with an upgrade at a reasonable rate and free drinks at the bar. The rest of the staff was also great. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in our room & the bartender opened our bottle without corkage fees, gave us crystal glasses to drink out of & even gave us some snacks to enjoy, all on the house! Overall a very great experience; we would consider staying there again!

Hi, I would just like to say that the apartment was fantastic. The location was second to none, it was spacious and clean, and the check in/out was quick and easy. The owner was very friendly and kept in contact. I will definitely be using this accommodation again, provided it is available !!. Thanks
Business travellers may prefer to stay in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district. Known as the city’s “Financial Mile,” the region is located between the city centre and Schiphol Airport and features a range of business hotels near the RAI Convention Centre.
Famous for its museums, most important of which are located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam offers you a chance to see unforgettable masterpieces by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mondriaan and more. The Anne Frank House is a sobering reminder of the city’s more recent history. After a lot of walking, the Rijksmuseum is a great place to rest and get some extra culture before visiting Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelpark.
Pros: I liked that the location was farther from the tourist areas but still within easy reach of anywhere in Amsterdam you might want to go. Great bar nearby with fantastic patio area called Meneer Nieges. The nearby Jordaan neighborhood is wonderful to explore, especially around sunset.
A short walk from the fashionable P.C. Hoofstraat shopping district, this modern 4-star hotel sits close to Leidse Square. Hotel highlights include a spa with hammam and sauna, a gym, onsite bar and restaurant and free wifi to keep you connected.
Pros: The building itself was lovely, very gothic with a cozy feel. The breakfast was excellent, make sure you get it included in your original price. The spa was nice and the staff was extremely helpful. We rented bikes from the hotel for a day and they were very good rides, better than our bikes at home! The mini bar is stocked daily and is FREE! We kept drinking our mini wines in the double bath tub every night. Great location, across the canal from central station. A great choice for our honeymoon stay.
Thank you for organising yet another lovely stay in Amsterdam! The appartment was perfect and the IstayDam team are brilliant hosts. I really appreciate the understanding with my late check in and how easily this was resolved. The team went above and beyond during our stay. As a fellow lettings agent I understand how difficult this can be when so busy! Please pass on my thanks to Rick and his team. Kind Regards, Rowen
