Like most major cities Amsterdam is made up of a collection of neighbourhoods, each one with its own personality and selling points. There’s the 9-Straatjes, a small area in the centre that boasts lots of narrow streets lined with quirky shops and cafes. The Centrum is in a similar area and is perhaps the busiest spot in the city. It has a plethora of museums, lively bars, and top-notch shops that are a big hit with tourists and locals. Then there’s De Pijp, which is similar to the 9-Straatjes in appearance but has a lot fewer tourists. This is where you’ll find lots of the markets and local, independent stores. Jordaan is one of the best-loved neighbourhoods in the city, and is home to a lot of young creatives, up-and-coming bars, and street art. NDSM-Werf is similar to Jordaan in that it is hugely creative and is called home by a number of artists, musicians, and students. Then there’s Oud-Zuid, the richer part of the city that caters to expensive tastes and luxury desires.

Pros: This hotel was in a great location and had very friendly staff. The room set up was a little strange. The bathroom was all glass and lacked privacy. The bed was also placed strangely with the foot of the bed against the wall. This was a very clean hotel, and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.
Cons: Room had odd shaped useless bedside tables. Counter was the only shelving facility in the room. Not enough for toiletries, phone/charger, wallets etc. we ordered dinner in the room and had no where to place the dishes except if we removed our stuff or ate on our laps. Most uncomfortable design. Hotel was located 15 minutes away from the charming city hub (on foot). Overall it didn’t add any good impression to make it worth returning to.

I’d like to say the apartment was lovely. It was clean and comfortable and had everything we required. It was so much better than staying at a hotel as you feel as if you have a home base which is much more relaxing than a hotel. The location was ideal. Really close to the city centre on the many trams that went past nearby. It was close to a main shopping area where there were supermarkets etc. And to the local market that was there every day (except Sunday) . The local bars and restaurants were extremely friendly and welcoming…as was everywhere we went in the city. I would definitely recommend this apartment for anyone looking in this area and will be looking for availability here next time we visit Amsterdam Thanks again for all your help with my cancelled booking/re-booking Anne-Marie
“Geen warm ontbijt, maar dit verwachtten we niet voor de voordelige prijs. Wel genoeg variatie. De croissants waren heerlijk. We mochten heel vroeg inchecken. Aan de balie waren ze zeer vriendelijk en helpvol. Tramhalte aan overkant, met tram 14 vlot naar centrum Amsterdam. Mogelijkheid om ticket openbaar vervoer in het hotel aan te kopen.”
Amsterdam is a cosy city, with a flurry of winding streets, tall, narrow houses, and cute bridges popping up over the array of canals. Strolling through the markets, past the design-led cafes, and the boutique shops is like stepping back in time to a world where cobbled streets ruled and friendly faces were around every corner. There’s a wealth of art and design throughout the city too, with a number of galleries, studios, and museums showcasing the creative atmosphere of Amsterdam. Fit in with the locals by hiring a bike and whizzing alongside trams, over humped bridges, and into the labyrinth of cool, quirky streets. And, afterwards, soak up the intimate ambiance with one of our apartments in Amsterdam, where you can stay in a budget flat or boutique holiday rental in the centre of all the action.

This bustling neighbourhood lies between Museumplein and the River Amstel and plays daily host to the city’s oldest street market, the Albert Cuypmarkt. Picturesque Sarphatipark is a pretty oasis in de Oude Pijp – a haven of calm in the middle of this lively neighbourhood. View hotels.
The Anne Frank House is where the young Jewish girl, Anne Frank, and her family hid from the Nazis during the war and where she also wrote her famous diary of the ordeal. Today, the house is a museum dedicated to her memory with the original diary, photographs and personal possessions on display.
Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport is really close to the city centre and therefore really easy to get to via a selection of public transport. The easiest way is to hop on the train, which takes around 20 minutes. Alternatively, there are a selection of buses outside the terminals that travel direct to various parts of the city centre. Otherwise there is a busy taxi rank by the airport where you can pick up a quick, cheap cab to your destination.
